Summer Skin Support: Vitamin C🍊

August tends to be the hottest month of the year in Oregon, so we wanted to cover one of our favorite ways to support the skin during the Summer: Vitamin C! If you’ve been around Wild Grace for a while, you know that we only use whole plants, not isolated compounds. So rather than adding a Vitamin C extract to our formulas, we opt for plants that are high in Vitamin C.

Why Whole Plants?

We make the most of what each bottle/jar contains. All 100% of the contents go to plants. When you take an active constituent away from all the other compounds in a plant, you lose the synergy of all the compounds in that plant. You lose the spirit, the essence, the personality of the plant.

So…why Vitamin C?

Vitamin C supports collagen production, fights free radicals, and supports graceful aging through nourishing antioxidants. Plants rich in Vitamin C tend to be anti-inflammatory, cooling, and tonifying for tissues. This tightening and lifting action on the skin also helps to retain moisture and hydration which is beneficial in the Summer, especially if you live in a dry climate.

Our favorite whole plant skincare ingredients high in Vitamin C:

1. Hibiscus:

Rich in antioxidants, Vitamins A & C, and other minerals, Hibiscus has been dubbed “nature's botox” as it firms and gently exfoliates skin. Its high mucilage content hydrates and cleanses while providing nutrients, quickly revitalizing dull, dry skin for a dewy, glowing complexion.

Find Hibiscus in Aer Cleansing Cream, Ceres Replenishing Tonic, and Mel Honey Mask.

2. Sea Buckthorn

In addition to being an excellent source of vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals, Sea Buckthorn is a good source of palmitoleic acid which helps with healing burns and wounds. Also rich in Omega-6 fatty acids, Seabuckthorn may be helpful in reducing psoriasis, eczema, and acne.

Find Sea Buckthorn in Solis Antioxidant Serum, Aura Face Balm, and Lumen Repair Serum.

3. Rosehip

Incredibly nutrient dense, Rosehip Seed is rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants, and carotenes with a beautiful balance of essential fatty acids. It offers protection from oxidative stress, while preventing scarring, regenerating skin cells to repair skin damage and UV exposure.

Find Rosehip in Lumen Repair Serum, Helios Shimmering Body Oil, Sirenis Cleansing Balm, Solis Antioxidant Serum, Luna Balancing Serum, and Claritas Brightening Mask.

4. Camu Camu

An evergreen shrub that grows in the Amazon rainforest, Camu Camu is one of the richest botanical sources of Vitamin C. Camu Camu is also high in antioxidants and minerals to brighten skin tone and even discoloration, reduce inflammation and sun damage, and boost collagen production to help you age gracefully.

Find Camu Camu in Mel Honey Mask and Claritas Brightening Mask.

5. Aronia Berry

Our Aronia Berry is organically grown just 45 minutes from us in Oregon by a multi-generational family-farm. This small berry is packed with polyphenols and is considered one of the highest plant sources of antioxidants which may help prevent free radical damage to the skin. It’s also high in Vitamins C, A, K, and E to feed the skin and anthocyanins which give the berry its dark blue color and lend anti-inflammatory properties.

Find Aronia Berry in Mel Honey Mask.

6. Cranberry Seed Oil

This lightweight and nutrient-dense oil is an incredible stand-alone plant oil with a potent dose of antioxidants, a balanced Omega profile, phytosterols, carotenes, and even resveratrol, all of which protect against free radical and UV damage. High in tannins and minerals, Cranberry Seed Oil tones skin, preventing overproduction of oil while deeply moisturizing dry, flaky skin.

Find Cranberry Seed Oil in Solis Antioxidant Serum, Luna Balancing Serum, Anam Cara Restorative Balm, Mel Honey Mask, and Aura Face Balm.
